RAND American Youth Panel

A nationally representative panel of young people

Our young panelists fill out surveys with questions about their perceptions of school, college, entry into the workforce, and their take on timely topics. With these data we can track the changing opinions, attitudes, and behaviors of contemporary youth as they transition from adolescence to young adulthood.

About the American Youth Panel

RAND launched the American Youth Panel in 2024. RAND is a nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decisionmaking through research and analysis.

The American Youth Panel is one of a very few nationally representative panels of youth ages 12–21. In spring 2024, RAND began recruiting youth (and their parents) using address-based sampling. The goal is to recruit 2,000 youth into the panel, with oversamples of youth in four target states: California, Florida, New York, and Texas. The Gates Foundation sponsors the American Youth Panel.
